Pretty In Punk

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

Gritty, 1970′s punk rock meets Betsey Johnson. This is where we went for our entry into the Inspired Creations Contest. Inspired Creations is a design challenge hosted by Elizabeth Anne Designs and The Sweetest Occasion for wedding vendors to team up and create an original wedding concept to inspire engaged couples.

Punk rock for us means safety pins, booze, graffiti, and lipstick on mirrors. So, we used safety pins to attach escort cards to a glittery backdrop. We did lipstick pen favors for the girls and Jim Beam with custom labels for the dudes. We spray painted a bathroom mirror gold and used hot pink lipstick to write the table name on it. And we created a graffiti board “guest book” that wedding guests could spray paint, ultimately creating a piece of art that our newlyweds could display in their home.

To up the glam factor, we took a black sequined table linen and added gold chargers, gold-rimmed glassware, and gold flatware to the place setting. We spray painted wooden folding chairs gold. And for a pop of pink, we added hot pink napkins and puffy pink flowers.

And finally, we created a cocktail rimmed with gold edible glitter, and hot pink glowing ice cubes. Check out what our amazing team created below, and you can also see our entry posted on The Sweetest Occasion. Enjoy!!!

Rue Magazine!!!

SHUT UP!!!

That is literally what I emailed back to Anne Sage when she asked if I wanted to style something for Rue Mag.  REALLY?  A dream come true.  This magazine is slammed full of lifestyle inspiration, design ideas, style stuff and parties to die for.  Could it get any BETTER?  Why yes, yes it can.  Noa of Feather Love Photography was to be our subject.  She is amazing.  Simply amazing. We were asked to help design and style a dinner party for her and her friends that will showcase her lifestyle.  So as the email streams started flowing, the only words that we kept using in our subject lines were, “Darko Wierdo”.  So we went with it.  And went with it.  And went with it!  Our mission is to bring back macrame and ferns.  We had the darkest, weirdest ideas and it was the most fun I have EVER had designing.  Go read the entire article here and go to pages 142-167.  Meanwhile, check out what this amazing team put together:

Jr High Sweethearts

Thursday, February 10th, 2011

They met in Jr High.  He, with the smarty pants sense of humor.  She, the loyal friend and the coveted wardrobe.  She scratched his face out in her yearbook.  So of course they got married 15 years later.  And she is my best friend.  Since 4th grade.  She is a high school teacher.  They love books.  Each guests was given a book specifically chosen for them as a favor.  Personalized book marks stuck inside each book.  Tables were named after their favorite authors.  We guided the guests to their seats with a dewey decimal system type set up in vintage rolodexes.  The guests signed old library check out cards attached to a guest book.  And my favorite, the 3 dimensional backdrop of books sticking out from raw wood.  A special shout out to Amber with Pitbulls and Posies for creating the APEX of our design, her school themed invitations and signage.  Her work is an inspiration.  And to my love, Mr Haack, our first wedding we worked on together.  I am in awe of your talent.  Enjoy their story.

Vintage Games Wedding

Tuesday, December 28th, 2010

We’ve been sitting on this little gem for a while now.

Vintage Games.  Ummm, YES!  When Sarah came to me with this concept, I was SO on board!  This is a styled shoot that illustrates a fun way to incorporate a couples’ love for fun and games!  We used rubix cubes for a party favor, Mai incorporated REAL bingo pieces in the bouquets, Posh girls used real game pieces in the escort cards and BINGO cards as menus! Melody added scrabble letters to her cake and make chocolate bingo cards too!  GET OUT!  We also were so lucky as to have The Knot feature this concept in their latest issue of The Knot Southern California.  AAAAAHHHHHH!!!

Best DIY wedding ever!

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010

Stacy Stacy Stacy.  My soul mate.  My fellow anal retentive crazy woman.  I’m not kidding, she handed me her wedding file that put mine to shame.  She also designed her entire wedding, and it kicked some serious booty!  I cannot choose my favorites, so this will be my first 2 part blog post!  This wedding was crafty, cute, clever and creative and I wish I could take credit for everything.  But I cannot.  Stacy, you are my hero.
