“Hello Kiddo” baby shower

Wednesday, January 11th, 2012

Inspired.  Inspired by my lovely friend and her little baby boy.  So I threw her a little shin dig at my house:)  Inspired by a picture I saw on Pinterest, from a brilliant kid goodie bag for a wedding on Martha Stewart.  So I kind of took the phrase “Hello Kiddo” and ran with it.  We used the entire spectrum of yellows, brought in some fun kid-style food, then offered guests a “custom omellette” option prepared by Chef Haack.  Each guest filled out an omellette card then Chef Haack prepared their own omellette while they mingled!  And of course my girls over at The Wedding Chicks hooked me up with the best goodie bags EVER and we filled them with bazooka gum.  Each guest also filled out a card with a fun kiddo activity on it to put in the “I’m Bored” jar.  Mom and Dad can bust this puppy out once the kiddo is a bit older to pull out a fun activity to do together that was given to them by one of their loved ones!  Hello Kiddo!

Pink Whimsical Wedding!

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

The bride is a fashion designer and the groom is an independent artist.  They are both so vibey and awesome!  The color palette is neutral and pinks and blushes, with the bride wearing a very unique gown and the bridesmaids chose their own dresses.  We escorted guests to their seats using mini donuts with flags in them, covered our linens with pink kraft paper, and custom made a zig zag, ombre style aisle runner for the bridal party to dance down.

The best part is that for every birthday celebration, this couple had their friends write them haikus that would be read in front of everyone at the party. We took this tradition and turned it into their guest book!  SO FUN! I loved this wedding and the photos are so dreamy. I couldn’t resist adding in one picture of the super HOT photographer.

THANK YOU to Style Me Pretty for featuring this wedding too!!

Maternity Session

Thursday, December 22nd, 2011

So, I debated whether I wanted to blog this session or not.  But it all came down to the fact that my husband is SO talented and I just have to brag about him. We did this quick shoot while up in Northern California over Thanksgiving weekend, when I was 34 weeks pregnant.  So, regardless if it makes me feel slightly silly blogging my own maternity session on my blog or not, Mr Haack is the real deal.    And I hope you enjoy OUR story :)

Sparkly Holiday Party

Thursday, December 15th, 2011

Did you see the most recent issue of Rue Magazine?  Well, we were in it!!!  We were SO HONORED to be able to style a Holiday party for the crazy talented couple behind Casa De Perrin, a vintage tabletop/dinnerware rental company.  We MIGHT have gone a little overboard on this one.  I mean, we made ponycorns.  My partners in crime, Anne Sage, Diana Perrin and I were inspired by a Hansel/Gretel/Candyland/Fairytale theme, so we just went for it.  Mr. Haack built me this 8ft Christmas tree out of wood that we covered in felt and adorned with felt ball pendants.  We gave each guest a candyball covered My Little Pony to take home as a gift.  Hot chocolate gift mugs were offered at the end of the soiree complete with a candy cane stir stick.  Each guest found their seat from a hand made stuffed tree with their name tag pinned on.  And the amazing mini pine cone centerpiece with the colorful, looked good enough to eat flowers?  Yes, that is Honey and Poppies.  And all of the paper goods that pretty much blew my mind were from the insane Pitbulls and Posies. And of course, Heirloom LA brought the goodness with all of the amazing food and eggnog that we could possible handle, AND they made it look like pieces of art in the process!  The ladies of Cupcakes Couture MB really brought our vision to life when creating the most divine cake with a candy sprinkle swirl, and not to mention the table spread of other goodies that we couldn’t keep our hands off of!  And it all sat atop of our most amazing sparkle linens from Latavola Linen!  And did you see those sweet vintage “poofs” for seating?  That and all of the awesome, unique rentals were provided by Yeah! Rentals.  And really, could it get ANY better than having Jasmine Star herself shooting all of our hard work?  NO.

Pixel Cowboy Part II

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

So, did you miss Part I?  Go catch up here.  Let’s get back to the goods.  SO many fun design details!

The guests departed from the gorgeous chapel in the woods to then step on to a gondola, with a “morin-ita” in hand, to take a breathtaking trip up the mountain to the reception.  Once at the top of the mountain, guests were greeted with the “pixel” initial sign with D+B. It was a fun one too, we made that out of plain cardboard boxes outlined in duck tape!

The most important design element that Brit wanted to go crazy with was our ceiling installation.  We hung square paper lanterns in our color scheme then strung LOTS and LOTS of “pixel garlands” in between hung by twine.  It was spectacular in  person, I wish everyone could have seen it!!

Other fun details we brought in were LED party glasses, cowboy boot beer mugs (instead of bouquet and garter toss, they did a chug off), LED ice cubes were placed in the cocktails, a pixel rope backdrop for the cupcake station (guests decorated their own cupcakes then Brit and Dave judged them and chose winners), and my personal fave: the raw lightbulb food station signs.  I LOVED these, even though transporting them via plane, then rental car, then loading them up the gondola to get them into the venue was quite an adventure :)

Pixel Cowboy Part I

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

When Dave and Brit and I first began getting to know each other and brainstorming, it was VERY apparent that these two were some serious technology celebrities.  So I presented them with an idea I called, “Pixel Cowboy”.  It came about by all of the inspiration pictures Brit sent over to me.  Equal parts gadget:cowboy rustic inspiration.  Their venue was a mountain top in Jackson Hole, WY so naturally the cowboy part fit right in.  Then we kind of just went crazy with the pixel part!  Brit was a key designer in this entire process as she acquired a brilliant laser etcher machine that was the muscle behind ALL of the wood etching that Brit created.  I was in heaven!  The bridesmaid dresses with boots, the tutu flower girls, the groomsmen in their cowboy hats, all of it was amazing.  We added a touch of “pixel” goodness to the already breathtaking chapel by hanging garlands of pixels topped with a burlap bow.

One of the things of this amazing weekend that I thought was SO KEY in Brit and Dave really TELLING their story was how they used technology.  They even built their own wedding website complete with Facebook integration so that all their guests could meet and get to know each other before the big event. It was such a hit that Brit has spent the past few months building a version of the site that any bride or groom can use. The new site is Weduary, a more innovative wedding website creator, complete with themes and all kinds of social features for you and your guests.

Brit also decided to launch her brand new company, Brit.  It’s an online guide full of innovative ways for busy, but inspired people to get creative in and around the home without spending too much time or effort.

Modern Citrus Wedding

Thursday, October 13th, 2011

It all started with Lindsey and Aaron really wanting to highlight the city they love, LA.  Their family and friends were mostly from the mid west, so they really wanted their guests to get the full LA experience.  Pitbulls and Posies thought of the brilliant play on words or “letters” with using Lindsey and Aaron’s first name initials to create the “I love LA” slogan.  LOVE THIS.  So we went with the color scheme of the sunset.  Oranges, yellows, and corals.  Lindsey also really loves modern Jonathan Adler style decor, so Carissa from JL Designs really killed it to create a table scape that reflected that.  White chiavari chairs went amazingly with our white dance floor, and worked great to really understate the fact that we were in a ballroom.  The retro print linens from Latavola were key in us achieving our modern, yet sunset vibe.  The escort cards were YUMMY homemade peach jam from the groom’s family.  And of course, Gabriel Ryan captured it all so artistically.  Lindsey and Aaron are the most amazing people EVER.  So fun, humble, grateful, and FUN.  LOVE them :)

We are so stoked on the feature over at the ever so fabulous 100 Layer Cake!

Johnny Cash

Monday, October 10th, 2011

Three months and 23 days after they met, Karey said yes.

Music is their passion.  Specifically for Zak, Johnny Cash.  So we came up with a amp flanked ceremony altar, electric guitars resting on each, and guitar picks on each chair to “pick” the newlyweds as they head back down the aisle.  Harmonicas led the guests to their seats, custom EP’s named each table, and music sheets covered the vases and cake stand, not to mention the backdrop of old records.  The bride and groom autographed custom made posters for each guest to take home to remember their day.  And my favorite part?  Zak’s oldest guitar served as a guest book.  As you can see, this wedding was F-U-N.

Space Invader Baby Shower

Tuesday, September 27th, 2011

I helped with this AMAZING baby shower thrown by a RAD group of wedding industry gals for my good friend Carissa, from JL Designs.  I am seriously blown away by how talented my friends are.  This shower makes me so happy.  Carissa decided on a subtle robot theme for her nursery, so her and Leila ran with that when designing all of the details.  It is so over the top amazing.  Can’t stand it.

Balloons and Biplanes

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011

Balloons.  Biplanes. Clouds. Cotton balls.  SO FUN.  I loved this wedding and this bride and groom!!!  Maps were used and folded to create paper airplane programs.  Covered the aisle runner in cotton for the girls to walk down on clouds.  Made a backdrop for the ceremony of cotton “jet stream” that spelled out LOVE.  Mini hot air balloons led guests to their seats where they found delicious chocolate toffee bars and a biplane table number :)  The flowers were resting in baskets covered in “clouds”.  It was all so poofy and fun!  Enjoy their story!
