Beatles Inspired Wedding Part II

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

All they need is love.  And believe me, they HAVE it.  Love these two and LOVE their wedding design.  Carmen and Pete’s favorite Beatles album covers were the table names, old tape cassettes had each guests’ album name on it for them to match to the table name.  We created a large music bar and had music notes for guests to sign and add to the bar.  A large Beatles cutout gave fun facts about Carmen and Peter and also told guests the menu for the evening.  The menu (deliciousness) was provided by Eco Caters who offers all organic and sustainable catering.  Late night partying brought the guests a surprise performance by Al Stewart and late night tacos by King Taco and a fun performance by a Beatles cover band, The Backbeats!

Catch up with Part I, then enjoy the REST of their story!

Beatles Inspired Wedding PART I

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011

The Shugar’s.  What can I say about these two?  So much life, so much fun, so much LOVE.  They are near and dear to my heart. Because of their amazing spirits, there was a meaning behind EVERYTHING we did.

Carmen + Pete’s nickname. The first three letters “S-H-U” come from Pete’s last name. The last three letters “G-A-R” come from Carmen’s last name. Hence, “ShuGar!” or “sugar” :)

They both share a love of music and film.  Their favorite band?  Yup, The Beatles.

To show their love of film, guests waved a flag made from movie film, which unraveled to spell out, “It’s for reel!”

The flowers on Carmen’s bouquet were made from music sheet paper from the Beatles song “Anytime at All” which Pete sang to Carmen as he proposed. Each bout for the groomsmen + groom was made from vintage atlas map paper from different cities they have visited or would like to go.

The best part?  The girls carried red tamborines instead of bouquets:)  And the guys danced down the aisle with marachas.  I told you it was FUN!!!

Thank you SO MUCH to Jen for featuring this sweet wedding on Green Wedding Shoes!  Check back for Part II!

Big News….Again!!!

Wednesday, August 17th, 2011

Ok, I know we are crazy, but Mr. Haack and I have big news.  Again.  Yes, along with EVERYONE else in this fabulous industry, we are pregnant with our 3rd little munchkin.  I know, a weekend at Coachella will do that to ya.  And YES.  I DID JUST HAVE A BABY.  But Maverick is actually almost a year now, so it’s not as bad as it seems.  So, we will be doing this thing again in January, WOOT!  I am five months pregnant and so that means we k now what we are having.  Are you curious?  Well, it wouldn’t be exciting if I just TOLD you, would it?  So I will let you experience it the way our family got to experience it.  By finding these yummy cake pops from my bestie Melody from Sweet and Saucy Shop on their doorstep.  And my other lovely friend Karrie Pyke from Posh Paperie whipped up these cute tags as SOON as I texted her the idea.  LOVE these friends!  Check back tomorrow for the big reveal!

Little White Chapel

Monday, August 8th, 2011

When Emily Scott from Gem Photo approached us about designing a photo shoot for her, we were excited. When she told us about her concept, we were over the moon.

Emily wanted us to design something that was inspired by the 60′s, but not overly retro. She wanted her bride in a dress that her mother may have worn before her. And she wanted something clean, modern, and whimsical. Emily had already selected an AMAZING shoot location – a pretty little white chapel located on the coast, north of San Francisco. So we built our design around this concept – mixing bold patterns with classic sophistication, and clean modern with a bit of whimsy.

We loved the idea of a church elopement. We created an intimate table for two, complete with a confetti “runner.” Amber Moon from Pitbulls and Posies took this idea and ran with it – creating a wedding announcement that proclaimed, “We Did It.” The ladies from Cupcakes Couture created a custom cake for us that we would have died to have at our own weddings. Yasmin from Floral Theory took our inspiration and created a dreamy bouquet, as well as the pretty little centerpieces. Camille Monique perfected our bride’s look with classic hair and makeup. And of course, everything is better with ban.do – we used a sequin heart as our groom’s “boutonniere,” and the bride wore a sparkly hair clip. A gold sequin mini heart added the perfect accent to our place setting.

We are so grateful to have worked with this AMAZING team. Check out the gorgeousness that our team created below and THANK YOU SO MUCH to Jen from Green Wedding Shoes for the feature!!! Enjoy the story.

Hello Sunshine!

Thursday, July 21st, 2011

A Palm Springs pool party. And a lot of funk with a hint of nostalgia. We thought this would make a great concept for a casual wedding. “Hello Sunshine” is for the bride and groom that don’t want a traditional wedding reception. Instead, they want to get hitched, jump in the pool, and party with their friends!

Posh Paperie took our color scheme and concept and used big, bold fonts with funky patters to create the paper goods of our dreams.  Our absolute favorite element was the custom drawn map of the Ace Hotel! The design that Posh Paperie came up with inspired the custom printed beach towels, canvas totes, t-shirts and tanks that Wedding Chicks created for us, as well as the dessert table backdrop. We created an altar of hot pink and orange beach balls. Our bride wore a lace dress over her bikini and donned a pink peony wristlet in lieu of a bouquet. Her bridesmaid sported a large peony “boutonniere” as a spin on tradition. Wedding guests would receive a “summer survival kit” as a welcome gift. Each kit included a custom beach towel, tanning stickers, tanning oil, aloe gel, and an Ace Hotel koozie, in a custom canvas tote. As a spin on a signature cocktail, we created “otter shots” – alcohol infused otter pops. And, since we think donuts are coming back in a big way, we wanted donuts to play a part in our dessert. So Melody from Sweet and Saucy took the idea and ran with it, and created our incredible donut cake! Last, but not least – don’t forget the sunscreen! A mannequin that guests could apply zinc oxide messages to served as our “guest book.”

Vintage Things

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

Vintage keys played a very important role in Ashley and Ian’s wedding. In lieu of a ring, Ian had a key tattooed on his ring finger. Ian gave Ashley a key necklace on the day they would become husband and wife. And keys led wedding guests to find the seats where they would celebrate Ashley and Ian’s love. Keys were not the only source of inspiration for this wedding, though. Ashley’s love of everything vintage inspired us to create a romantic table of gray with white lace and milk glass vases, a wall of clocks, and a wall of books, and a pretty backdrop of gloves and hankies. We even used the “Mad Libs”-style RSVP cards from Ashley and Ian’s wedding invitations to create a photobooth backdrop. Thank you so much to our amazing team, and enjoy the story!  Go over to see an AMAZING layout of this wedding on Green Wedding Shoes!

Desert Mod

Friday, June 10th, 2011
A bride with a mohawk? Hot pink chiavari chairs? And a three-legged dog named Tipsy? STOP IT. Add the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs, as much tumbleweed that we could wrangle from the desert, and some mid-century modern flair, and you’ve got Desert Mod.
The tablescape we created was full of big, bold colors – including hot pink chiavari chairs, denim wrapped vases, orange and yellow blooms, and bright chevron patterns. A personalized pink cactus awaits each wedding guest.
The bride wore a champagne gown and sported a mohawk, while her groom wore a bolero tie with a thistle boutonniere. We formed a gigantic heart from tumbleweed, and an interactive “guest book” allowed guests to form messages and pictures with perler beads.
Check out what our amazing team put together, and thank you so much to DESIGN SPONGE for the feature!!!! Enjoy!

Old Hollywood + Mayan Revival

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

A “first karaoke” instead of first dance. An uncontrollable dance party courtesy of The Flashdance. And it all went down at the insanely unique Sowden House.  And the pictures that Rebecca of Docuvitae produced??????  DYING.

We were all so enamored with the beauty of the Sowden House’s architecture. The architecture became the apex of our design inspirations. We really didn’t want to compete with the house itself and everything that came with it so we decided to go in the direction of Mayan Revival. We wanted to use all natural leaves and foliage to enhance the beauty of the grounds. And we wanted to use fuchsia as our pop of color to touch on the look of the bougainvillea in the courtyard. Then we needed to spice everything up, and that’s where the gold came in. We copied the architecture of the home by cutting out wood in the same silhouette and creating the smilebooth backdrop to look like a mini version of the home.
